Philipp Sulzberger

Young German baritone Philipp Sulzberger commenced his vocal studies at the Hochschule fuer Musik in Munich and continued his studies in New York at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and in the opera programme of the University of Nebraska. During this time he studied under Ariel Bybee. Mr Sulzberger has participated in Master classes with Marlena Malas, Phyllis Curtin and Gundula Janowitz.

He has won numerous awards including the Soli Deo Gloria Cantirum Voice Competition and he was the district  winner of the distinguished Metropolitan Opera Audititons. From 2001 to 2003 he was engaged at the Pittsburgh Opera as a Young Artist.

During his time there he performed 14 roles including Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Escamillo (Tragedie de Carmen), Schaunard (la Boheme), Publio (La Clemenza di Tito), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Starveling (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Count Gil (Il Segreto di Susanna). He has been a guest artist with Opera Omaha, the Sevilla Open Air festival (Escamillo) and numerous times with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
